Quinten – Seerenbachfälle

Quinten - Seerenbachfälle

I did this hike on the 15th of May, when I had some friends from Denmark visiting. I have been in this area around Walensee several times, hiking up to Walenstadtberg and Paxmal, and I really like it. It is often snow free relatively early in the season, which makes it ideal for spring hiking.

Full route: Swisstopo

We took a train from Zürich to Murg, from where there is a ferry sailing to Quinten on the other side, where we started the hike. It is a really nice boatride on Walensee, and even though the day started out very grey, we had amazing views to the peaks of Churfirsten.

Quinten is a small village with a couple of restaurants and wineyards. It is a very nice and peaceful place. From Quinten, you start out with a slightly steeper part of the trail, which takes you up above Walensee. For the first short part, the trail is on a wide gravel road, but it quickly turns into a hiking path in the fores. It is some places a bit narrow, but nowhere did we find it problematic.

About half way through the hike, you approach the area around Seerenbachfälle. While you are still walking in the forest, there are smaller waterfalls coming down to the side, and when we came out of the forest, we got the first view to Seerenbachfälle in the distance.

It is possible to get up very close to the waterfalls, which is a really nice experience. There are info boards on a small platform in front of the waterfalls, with information about the waterfalls themselves. From the platform you also have very nice views to the other side of Walensee and mountain peaks in Glarus.

We had lunch on the grass after visiting the waterfalls. There is a couple of smaller restaurants along the way, but they are further away, and we found it nice to be able to enjoy the full size of the waterfalls.

From Seerenbachfälle to Weesen, you walk mainly on gravel and normal road, and it is an easy path down. For the last part of the hike, you walk along Walensee, with multiple possibilities to stop for a break and swim.

Along the part down by the lake, you also have very nice views in direction Ziegelbrücke and Glarus.

In Weesen, we had some time before the bus came, so we had a coffee at one of the restaurants close to the lake. The bus took us to Ziegelbrücke, from where it is a short train ride back to Zürich.
