Walenstadtberg - Paxmal
I did this hike with a friend on the 6th of April, 2024. I had seen pictures of the Paxmal peace monument, and since it looked interesting, we decided to do the below hike, and include a visit to Paxmal.

After a short train ride from Zürich to Walenstadt, we took the bus up to Walenstadtberg, where we started the hike. Spring was underway and there were blooming flowers everywhere, which made for some nice scenery.
The start of the hike is on normal road, which quickly turns into a mix between a regular hiking path and wider gravel road. The first part was through forest, with smaller waterfalls coming down and a calm atmosphere.
After the forest, we reached a more open part with great views. From here, we could see some of the peaks of Churfirsten and also Walensee and the snow covered peaks in the background.
The trail here was for a shorter part quite steep, but not problematic. As we reached the top of this part, we took a break to enjoy the views and catch our breath.
After the break, we started the descent and way towards Paxmal. It is an easy descent on a wide gravel road. You walk above the forest, and have great panoramic views over the whole valley in direction Chur.
We reached Paxmal, and the location just below Churfirsten. I found the monument very nice, and the big mosaic pictures were really impressive, eapecially up close. We were almost alone at Paxmal, and took our time to enjoy the atmosphere.
After the visit, we slowly made our way back down to Walenstadtberg. We had some time before the bus came, and once again enjoyed the views. The bus took us to Walenstadt, from where we took the train back to Zürich.
