Schwarzsee (day 1)
I did this hike on the 22nd of May, 2026. I had been looking for campgrounds, since I wanted to go with my tent, and the one directly at Schwarzsee looked very nice. I made a two day hike out of it, and on day 1 I did the hike below ending at the campground. On day 2, I started from the campground and hiked up above the lake.

It was a very nice May morning when I started the hike. I had taken a train from Zürich to Fribourg, and from there caught the bus in direction Schwarzsee. The first short part of the trail is along a river through some forest, and it was a nice calm start to the hike.
Leaving the river, I started the ascent up towards the ridge I was gonna walk over. The first part of the trail here was on normal and gravel road, after which it turned into a hiking trail going through forest for a short part.
As I made my way up, I could see the mountain peaks of Kaiseregg and Spitzflue in the background, and I generally had really nice panoramic views, already from the start of the hike. After the first hour, I found a bench in the shadow and took a nice long snack break.
The hiking trail up to and over the ridge changes between wide gravel road and more regular hiking path. Almost at the top, I came across some larger snow patches, but nowhere did they cover the trail.
As I started the hike over the ridge, the views got even better. I still couldn’t see the lake, but the mountains looked amazing and I could even see some larger still snow covered peaks in the far distance.
Most of the trail over the ridge is relatively flat, but the last part up to the top of Schwyberg gets steeper, but is not long. Up on the top there were some benches around a cross, and I decided to have my lunch break here before starting the descent.
Not long after leaving the top, the views opened up in direction southwest. From here, I could see many more mountain peaks including Vanil Noir, the highest peak in canton Fribourg.
There are several ways down from the top, and I had chosen to follow a ridge leading me down in direction Schwarzee through some forest. The trail again got more narrow here and just before starting the descent, I got the first views down to Schwarzsee.
It was a very nice hike down through the forest and different from the trail running over the ridge. All along the trail down, I constantly had great views to Schwarzsee and the mountains above.
As I got down to Schwarzsee, I decided to take the longer way around the lake to the campground. The weather was very nice and the views were amazing, so I wanted the hike to last a bit longer, and I took my time walking the last kilometers.
It took me about half an hour walking around the lake and it was mid afternoon when I reached the campground. After a quick check in, I put my tent up in a perfect spot with views to the mountains, and had a nice relaxing afternoon and evening.
