Schwarzsee (day 2)
I slept really well on the campground and woke up at 6am well rested. It was another nice May day and I packed down my tent, had breakfast and was ready to leave at 7am. I started with a visit to Seeweidbach, a waterfall just 10 min from the campground, tucked away in forest.
After a short and very nice quiet walk through the forest, I arrived at Seeweidbach. It is a really great waterfall, and you can get up relatively close, although there is a warning sign informing about the risk of falling rocks. I spend some time by the waterfall taking pictures and enjoying the calm start to the day.
Back on the planned hiking route, I started the ascent. It was for the first hour quite steep, and I could feel my legs from the day before, so I walked in a slow but steady pace. The trail followed gravel roads and I quickly came up high enough to see Schwarzsee, where I had started.
After the first hour, the trail broke off the gravel road and turned into a regular hiking path, which in some places were quite narrow. It was nice to get into the shade, as it was already quite warm. As I went along this part of the trail, I could see through the trees down to Schwarzsee and the mountains around.
This part of the trail was also steep, but after about half an hour, I came up to the top. Up here, there was a bench (of course) and I took a snack break and rest after the ascent. I could see the peaks of Spitzflue and Fochsenflue, which I would later hike down below. The trail down from here was also very narrow, but not problematic.
Down in Breccaschlund, I started the walk into the valley. The trail again followed a gravel road and it was an easy walk for the first half hour. Since I had started quite early, I was completely alone on the trail, and I enjoyed it a lot.
After some time walking into the valley, the trail got steeper and turned around back in direction Schwarzsee. I had lost the views to Schwarzsee for some time, but could now again glimpse it in the far distance.
The trail again turned into a regular hiking path, winding its way along the side of the valley below the mountain peaks. This part was really nice as I had great views over the entire area and also walked in the shade.
At the end of this part I walked below Spitzflue and came back into a more open landscape. From here, I also had great views down to Schwarzsee and to the Schwyberg ridge, where I had walked the day before.
There are multiple trails going back down to Schwarzsee, but I had decided to take the cable car down to spare my knees, and also make the hike a bit shorter. The last part of the hike was on an easy trail, both through forest and more open landscape, which offered great views.
On the last part to the cable car station, I could see most of the trail I had just hiked. I was getting tired from the heat, and happy I had decided to take the cable car down to Schwarzsee.
Back down at the lake, I almost imediately caught the bus back to Fribourg from where I took the direct train back home to Zürich.
