Oberaletschhütte (Day 2)
After a good night sleep, we woke up to an almost empty hut, as most of the people staying overnight had already left. As our hike for today was relatively short, we had decided to have a slow morning and enjoy the surroundings a bit more, before leaving Oberaletschhütte.
We had great weather on the second day as well, and leaving the hut, we once again had great views to Beichgletcher and Nesthorn above.
Within the first hour, we saw what looked like a familie of ibexes high up above. They did not seem scared but just slowly walked around.
It got more cloudy as we made our way back on the trail, but that only made for some spectacular views over Oberaletschgletcher and the surrounding mountain peaks, which were constantly visible and then covered in the clouds.
Before crossing back over the river, we came across the Valais Blackneck goats, which looked amazing in their two color coats. They didn’t really seem to care about hikers, so it took us some time to get past them on the trail.
When we got out of the side valley in to Oberaletschhütte, we had absolutely amazing views over the mountains in this region and Stausee Gibidum below. After crossing over the river, we also got the first views of Aletsch Gletcher in the far back.
We made our way up to Hotel Belalp and stopped multiple times, to take pictures of Aletsch Gletcher in the back. I have done a couple of hikes closer to Aletsch Gletcher, but it was really nice to see it from afar and straight on.
Up at Hotel Belalp, there is a viewing area with some infoboards about the Aletsch Arena. We had a long lunch break up here, took more pictures and enjoyed the great weather and surrounding landscape.
After a while, we made our way to the cable car at Belalp, which took ud down to Blatten b. Naters, from where we took a bus back to Brig for our train to Zürich.
