Glion - Montreaux
I did this hike on the 18th of May, 2025. I was going with two friends to the area around Montreaux, which is famous for the blooming of the Narcisses flowers in May.
There is an online blooming forecast, where you can see in which areas the flowers are in bloom, and after looking at that, we decided on the hike below.
Full route: Swisstopo
We took at train from Zürich to Lausanne, where we changed to another train to Montreaux. From Montreaux, we took the train going all the way up to Rocher de Naye, and got out at Glion. It was a really beautiful day, and already at the train station in Glion, we had amazing views.
We hiked up through Glion, and made our way past some of the smaller areas with Narcisses flowers that we had seen on the map. Already here, the fields were covered in flowers, and it looked promising for the rest of the hike.
The higher we got, the more amazing views we had over lake Geneva, and the mountains on the border between Switzerland and France. The hiking path was generally easy, being mainly on normal and gravel road for most of the hike. Only on the last part, through the gorge before Montreaux, it turns into a real hiking trail, but nowhere did we find it problematic.
There was plenty of spring flowers everywhere in the fields while we hiked up, and after some time, we also got views to the peak of Rocher de Nayes in the distance.
We reached our main destination, Haut-de-caux, which one of our friends had recommended us to visit. The fields with Narcisses flowers were even bigger here, and with the lake in the background, it made for some spectacular views.
After a long lunch break at Haut-de-Caux, and more pictures of the flowers, we started our hike back down in direction Montraux. After lunch, it seemed like even more people came to this area, so we were glad we had started early before it got too crowded.
We decided to walk back all the way to Montraux, and included the part through the Chauderon Gorge. This was a very nice ending to the hike, being both colder, but also very different from the rest of the hike.
Back in Montreaux, we walked along the lake side for some time, and found a place to get an ice cream and enjoy the view and weather.
After some time, we decided to take the next train back to Lausanne, and from there make our way back to Zürich.
