Montbovon - Rossinière
To reach Montbovon and the start of the hike, I took a train from Zürich to Fribourg, and from there continued with train to Bulle and then Montbovon. It was the first time I was in this area of Switzerland, so I was very excited to explore something new.
The weather was great and I slowly made my way upwards, throughs some forest, before I came to the more open parts above Montbovon. I really like this time of the year, when the hiking trails start being snow free, but the mountains are still snow covered.
I reached the top above Montbovon, marked by a cross, and took some time to enjoy the views around me. From up here, the snow line altitude was very clear, marking a green-white border in the landscape.
As I continued, the hiking trail turned into a half snow covered gravel road. The trail again led through forest, but there were many openings in the trees, so I could enjoy the views to the mountains and the peak of Dent de Corjon.
At one point, the trail changed from a wider gravel road into a more narrow hiking trail. Walking along this trail in the forest, more and more snow piled up, and I decided to cut my initial plan a bit short and turn off in direction Rossinière.
After the first part of the descent, I came out of the forest and had great views in direction L’Etivaz and the surrounding mountain peaks. It was an easy trail down, being mainly on gravel road.
Back down, I got a glimpse of Lac du Vernex located right next to Rossinière. I made it back to the train station in time for the train taking me back to Bulle, Fribourg and then Zürich.
I enjoyed visiting this area a lot, as I found it to be very calm with beautiful surroundings, so it is surely not the last time I am going here for hiking.
