Jogne Gorge - Gruyères
Since it was a very grey and cloudy day in all of Switzerland, we had decided on this hike through the Jogne Gorge, with destination Gruyères and the promise of some nice cheesy lunch.
We started out in Charmey, and after a short walk, we reached the dam at Lac de Montsalvens, which was very impressive. After crossing the dam, and a short walk up through the forest, we entered the Jogne Gorge.
The trail through Jogne Gorge is very nice and constantly making its way up and down, with parts closer to the river and parts further away. The trail itself, was at some places more narrow, but nowhere did any of us find it problematic.
You get up close to the rock walls in this area, which was a treat for a group of geologists like us. It was very nice to see how the rock layers were tilting and changing between different material.
Through a more narrow part of the gorge, there is a walking path build into the side of the rocks. This part was really nice, and the color contrast between the grey rocks and fresh green leaves really stood out.
After a couple of hours of walking through the gorge, we reached Gruyères on the top of a hill. Despite the very grey weather, we could still see some of the surrounding landscape and mountains.
We ended the hike in the old town of Gruyères and all had some amazing Rösti. After the meal, we slowly made our way down to the train station and started our journey back to Zürich.
