Kiental - Blausee
After the festival, we had stayed over at an airbnb in Frutigen, so in the morning, we took a bus to Reichenbach where we changed to a new bus which took us to Kiental. It had rained a lot the day before, so we were very happy with the nice weather when we started the hike.
After crossing the river, the ascent started and was for the first part quite steep. We quickly made it up above the valley, and had great views to the surrounding mountains. From here, we could just about make out some of the glaciers in the far distance covered by the clouds.
Despite the trail at times being steep, it was an easy hiking path, which for about half of the way followed gravel roads. The views constantly changed as we got higher, and it was luckily not too warm in the sun.
After some time, we found a nice viewpoint and decided to take a break. We were both a bit tired after the festival, but the spirit was high. We had not yet met anyone else on the trail, except some farmers, so it was generally really quiet and calm.
After a couple of hours, the weather started changing and we entered an area with a more dense cloud cover. We did not mind, and somehow it also looked very mysterious and different from what we had seen so far.
As we came up and over on the other side, we again had clear views and blue skies. From here, we made our way along the trail in direction Blausee and Kandersteg, and as we walked along this part, we could also see down in direction Frutigen, where we had spend the night.
The trail down was very pleasant and not too steep, so we had good time to enjoy the views until the trail went through the forest. I like hikes where you both walk up high, but also down below, and can see mountains and the landscape from both directions.
Just before turning off in direction Blausee, we had great views to Kandersteg and the mountains around. This is a really beautiful area, where I have done a few other hikes and I definitely want to come back to again.
The trail took us down to the valley floor where we crossed the river before entering into the area around Blausee. It wasn’t too crowded with people in here, and we spend about an hour before deciding to take the next bus.
It is really beautiful around Blausee, but in my opinion, there are plenty of other just as, if not more, beautiful lakes in Switzerland, with fewer people. That said, I am glad I visited and it was great ending to the hike. We took the bus back to Frutigen, from where we continued back home to Zürich with the train.
