Giswilerstock

Giswilerstock

I did this hike together with some friends on the 31st of August, 2024. I had seen pictures from a hike going all the way around Giswilerstock, and since it looked nice, we decided to go to this area. Instead of hiking around, we wanted to get to the top of Giswilerstock, and therefore decided on the hike below.

Full route: Swisstopo

We took a train from Zürich to Luzern and continued to Schüpfheim, from where a bus took us the last part to the start of the hike. It was a very nice warm summer morning as we made our way up the gravel road to the first ascent of the day.

As the trail turned off, the path changed from the wide gravel road into a regular hiking path. The climb up was steep and in many places with lose material, so we took our time. All along the way up, we had great views back towards Brienzer Rothorn.

Up on the top, the landscape opened up, and we had great views in direction Engelberg and Titlis. We took a break on the top before continuing, as we were all a bit exhausted after the first climb of the day. The trail led from here down before it again went up to Giswilerstock.

The way up to Giswilerstock was partly through forest and partly in open landscape. This part of the trail was in some places rather steep, but we were rewarded with great views all along the way.

Up at the top of Giswilerstock we decided to have our lunch break. It was getting really warm, so we found a spot close to some trees, where we could sit in the shade and relax. There were great views all around, and despite the slightly cloudy sky, the visibility was great.

We made our way back down the same way we had come up, but then turned off to make a loop on the way back. We passed a restaurant on our way and decided to have an ice break and cool down in the afternoon heat before continuing.

It was nice to take a different way back and see some new scenery. As we made our way around the bend after the restaurant, we could see Lungerersee in the valley below.

We made it over another small pass, Chringe, and walked the last part back. Almost back at the bus stop, we had great views to the mountain peaks, we had walked along for most of the hike. Two of my friends had come with their car, so we all drove back to Zürich together, which was a nice ending to the hike.
