Bristen - Wingällenhütte
I did this hike together with some friends on the 31st of October, 2025. I was once before in this area, hiking from Bristen to Golzerensee and really liked it. It was late in the season, but it looked like we would have snow free trails on most of the way up, so we decided to go.
Full route: Swisstopo
We started the hike in Bristen, which we reached by bus. The weather forecast had been changing a lot in the days before, but we had partly blue skies when we made our way over the first part of the trail. As we came further into the valley, we started to have great views of the surrounding mountains and back down in direction Bristen.
On the ascent towards the end of the valley, we came across several waterfalls coming down right next to the trail. It looked great, and the autumn colored landscape generally made for some very nice scenery.
At the end of the valley, the trail turns around and after a lunch break, we made our way up in direction Windgällenhütte. There started to be more snow on the trail, but still not so much, that we had to take out our gaiters.
As we continued up, it started to be more cloudy, but we still had great views. From up here, we could see most of the valley we had walked in down below. It was a really nice part of the trail and not too steep and difficult.
After a while, we made it to Windgällenhütte. There was more snow up here, but we had put on our gaiters, and decided to still hike up to the hut. The cloudy weather and clouds over the mountains made for some great views.
After passing by the hut, we started the descent back to Bristen. The first part of the trail down was covered with rather deep snow, so for half an hour, it was a slow and demanding hike. With semi-tired legs we continued, and the snow cover quickly cleared again.
We followed the trail back down to Golzerensee. As we were outside of the main season, the cable car at the lake was closed, so we had planned to hike all the way back to Bristen.
Back in Bristen we took the bus back to Amsteg, and from here continued our journey back home to Zürich.
