Via Capricorn (day 2)
I did this hike on the 7th of September, 2024. It was the second of two days hiking on Via Capricorn. This hiking route is originally three days long, but I only had two days and chose stage 3 (day 1) and stage 1 (this hike), as they looked the most interesting. I stayed over at a really nice small B&B in Wergenstein, where I was the only guest.
Full route: Swisstopo
After a good nights sleep at the B&B in Wergenstein, I started hiking around 8am. It was a very quiet morning, and the village looked very cute from above. The first short part of the trail was the same way I had come down yesterday, but hereafter I turned off in direction Piz Beverin.
I had heard marmots the day before, but not seen them, so I was very happy when I came across several of them over the first couple of hours. They were all very relaxed, but I still kept my distance to not disturb them.
The trail up to Carnusapass was very pleasant and not too steep, and with great views over the entire area. I also had clear views to the area I had hiked through yesterday, and it was generally a very calm and nice start to the day.
As I got closer to Carnusapass, I could also see further. It was again slightly cloudy, but I still had quite good views into Graubünden and the many mountain peaks. It was a quiet day, and I only met a few other people before crossing over the pass.
Up at Carnusapass, I took a longer break. It was a very warm September day, and I was glad I had done most of the uphill part before lunch. Walking over the pass, I got closer views to Piz Beverin rising up in the background.
There were generally a lot of pointy outcrops in this area, and it was very different from what I had been hiking through the day before. The trail down from Carnusapass was also easy, and only at a few places were there lose material or narrow trails.
All along the way to Glasspass, the end of the hike, I had amazing views towards the mountains above Flims in the far distance. To my right, I had views of Piz Beverin, a peak that could be nice to hike at one point. I generally really liked how many different views I had on this two day hike.
The last part down and then up to Glasspass was through forest. Up at Glasspass, I decided to take a later bus, and hike a bit in direction Piz Beverin, as I still felt quite good. On this last part of the trail, I could now see down to Thusis and the mountains around.
This part was a really nice addition with great views to the pointy Piz Beverin. I walked for about half and hour before I turned around back to Glasspass to catch the next bus. From here, I went down to Thusis and then went by train back home to Zürich.
