Brün – Flims

Brün - Flims

I did this hike on the 18th of April, 2025. I had been in the area before, hiking around Lake Cauma and Lake Cresta and thought it could be nice to go back. To make it different from what I had already done, I decided to start the hike on the opposite side, and only later cross over to the area I had visited before.

Full route: Swisstopo

I went by train from Zürich to first Chur and then Valendas-Sagogn, where I started the hike. The first short part of the hike was down by the river, and it was a very calm and beautiful way to start the day.

After a few kilometers, the trail turned away from the river and I started the first ascent of the day in direction Brün. I quickly made it up above the valley and passed through a really nice campground on the way. From up here, I soon had views to the snow covered mountains above Flims.

Just before reaching Brün, I found a littel viewpoint away from the road, and I took a break. The views from here towards Flims with the mountains above and Rheinschlucht below were just stunning, and it was really cool to see this area from the opposite side.

After my break I started the descent back down to the river. I went a different way to make it to the bridge where I could cross over to the other side. The vegetation was very different here, and it was nice again being so close to the very distinct rock formations.

I crossed the river and slowly made my way up on the other side. The trail was in some parts steep, but generally easy and not too long. Coming up on the top, I walked for a short while to the tower and viewpoint over the Rheinschlucht.

From up here, you have absolutely amazing views down to the river, that has cut its way through the sediments. It was the third time I was here, and I am sure I will be back again, cause it is just a very spectacular place.

I continued my hike and now made my way to Lake Cauma, the last stop on the hike. The views on the way here were great, and when I reached the lake I decided to walk around it to enjoy it form all angles. As it was early in the season, there weren’t too many people and I really enjoyed that.

The color of the water as the sun hit it was just stunning, and it is a really spectacular scenery. I have been here in summer as well, but did not find the color of the lake to be this distinct. I continued the last 10 min back to the bus at Flims Waldhaus and from here started the journey back home to Zürich.
