Oberiberg - Ibergeregg
I did this hike on the 18th of January, 2026. It had been foggy in Zürich for weeks, so I decided to escape and chase some sun on this half day hike.
The area was almost fully snow covered, so I decided to mix some of the winter hiking trails in the area, to make sure there wouldn’t be any too deep snow to walk in.

I took the train from Zürich to Wädenswil where I changed to the train to Einsiedeln. In Einsiedeln I went on the bus to Hoch-Ybrig Talstation, which was the start of my hike. The first 45 min were quite steep, after which the path flattened out.
It was a really nice sunny morning, and I was for the whole part up to Ibergeregg alone on the trail. As I got past the first steep part up, I started to have really great views to the east and back in direction Oberiberg.
After another 45 min I reached Ibergeregg and got the first glimpses in direction south, into Kanton Schwyz and Uri and the snow covered mountains. There is a skiing area at Ibergeregg, so there was a lot of people in this area and on the winter hiking trails.
At the part of the hike in the area around Ibergeregg, I crossed the ski slopes multiple times, but it was everywhere very clearly signaled and not a problem. As I left the skiing area, I decided to have lunch on one of the snow free patches in the sun. On the last half of the hike, there were more people, but nowhere did I find it crowded.
At the end of the hike, on the last ascent, I had amazing views towards Rigi and Pilatus and the ocean of clouds covering the valleys and Vierwaldstättersee. As much as the fog and clouds over Zürich and valleys in winter can be hard, it looks amazing when you get above.
On the way back, I took a bus to Schwyz train station and from there a train to Zürich.
