Andeer - Splügen
I did this hike on the 10th of May, 2024. As there was still snow in the mountians, I had looked for hikes at low elevation and came across this trail, which is also stage 2 of the ViaSlpuga. I had never been in this part of Graubünden, and since the pictures looked nice, I decided to go.
Full route: Swisstopo
After a train ride from Zürich to Chur and a bus from Chur to Andeer, I started the hike. The first part out of Andeer is flat, and after about half an hour, you start the first short ascent through forest. It was a cold morning, but the weather was perfectly sunny with blue skies.
Once out of the forest again, you reach Lai da Seara, which you walk along for some time on a path next to the road. At the end of the lake, you cross over on a bridge, and again enters the forest.
Walking through the forest, this is also the point where you enter the Roflaschlucht, which most of this hike goes through. After crossing another wooden bridge, there is a part that goes next to and a few places crosses the road.
The trail through Roflaschlucht goes through forest, a bit away from the river, but also has parts down by the river itself. At a few places, you walk close to the road, but everywhere on marked hiking trails. I had a lunch break out on some big rocks in the river, which was really nice and calm with the water running next to me.
Towards the end of the part through Roflaschlucht, I started having views to the surrounding snow covered mountains. The trail leads from Roflaschlucht up to Sufnersee by the village Surfers, and I had my lunch break here. At the lake, I had really nice clear views in direction Splügen and the mountains around Splügenpass.
From the lake and Surfers and towards Splügen, you leave the hiking path and walk on normal and gravel road or flat paths through fields. It was a nice change with the more open landscape, to enjoy the surroundings after the part in Roflaschlucht.
Once in Splügen, I walked up a small road to get more views of the snow covered mountains before I made my way down to Splügen and the bus stop.
From Splügen, I again took the bus running from Bellinzona to Chur, and from Chur I caught a direct train back to Zürich.
