I did this hike together with some friends on the 2nd of March, 2024. We had been looking for snow free trails around Brienzersee, and decided to do the below loop around Brünigpass.
Full route: Swisstopo
We reached Brünigpass with a train from Luzern and started the hike right from the train station. We walked in direction Meiringen for about 25 minutes before we turned around, and made our way down on the other side. This part was through forest, but we still had views to some snow covered mountain peaks above the tree tops.
After the walk back down, we started the ascent up on the other side. Over here, we quickly made it above the forest to the views of the mountains around us. The trail was for most of the hike on gravel road, with a few shorter parts on more regular hiking path, and nowhere problematic.
It was a really nice early spring day with sun and a lightly clouded sky, and we decided to take a small break up on a small plateau. From here, we had great views of the mountain peaks above Brünigpass, and could also see into the valley in direction Meiringen.
After our break, we continued up to the top of our hike, from where we had really great views over Brienzersee and the mountain ridge running all along the lake. We had our lunch break up here, and spend half an hour enjoying the views and the nice weather, before we started the descent back to Brünigpass.
The last part of the way down took us past viewpoints, and back into the forest, before we reached Brünigpass. From here, we took the train back to Luzern and continued with a train back home to Zürich.
