Stockhorn
I hiked this hike together with my knitting club on August 11, 2024. As several of us had heard of Stockhorn and wanted a hike with nice panoramic views, we chose this option. There are many hiking trails in the area and with a couple of cable car options it makes it possible for almost anyone to get up to the top to enjoy the views.
Full route: Swisstopo
We took a train from Zurich to Bern and continued with train to Erlenbach. In Erlenbach, it is a short walk to the cable car station from where we took the cable car to Chrindi.
The hike started along Hinderstockesee before we turned off, through a short part in forest. Coming out of the forest we got the first views down towards Hinderstockesee and the mountain peaks in the background.
The ascent from the forest and up was steep and on sunny warm days it can be quite demanding, but the hiking path is relatively wide and without steep sides or narrow parts with lose material.
As we reached the top of Stockhorn, we were rewarded with great 360 degrees view of the entire region. We could follow our entire hiking path form the start and up, and also had clear views down towards Oberstocksee.
On the top, by the cable car station, there is a restaurant where you can get drink and food.
After a long lunch break we started the descent in direction Oberstocksee. Looking back, we could see the hiking path we had used, zigzagging its way up to Stockhorn. Most people at Stockhorn came with the cable car, so we were almost alone on this second part of the trail.
The last half of the hiking trail was more challenging, but nowhere did any of us find it problematic. After the first part of the descent, we were back in a more forest like surrounding, and could enjoy the shade and flattening of the trail.
Coming down, we had to cross a couple of fields with cows before we reached Oberstocksee. We did not go the full way around the lake as we had to catch the cable car down again, but it was very nice and almost empty by Oberstocksee.
Back at Chrindi, we made it just in time for the cable car, and could start our journey back to Zürich after a very nice visit and hike to Stockhorn.
