Melchsee-Frutt - Trübsee
I did this hike on the 29th of October, 2022. Some friends of mine were going on this hike, and since I had never been in the area before, I decided to join them for the day. I had heard a lot of people mentioning Melchsee-Frutt, so I was excited to go.
Full route: Swisstopo
We reached Melchsee-Frutt from Zürich with train, bus and cable car, and started the hike right away. The first part of the trail was flat leading us around Melchsee. Already here, we had nice views to the surrounding landscape, which looked great with the autumn colors.
We continued along the trail to Tannensee. The path was for the first long part on a wider gravel road, so it was a very easy start to the hike. After passing Tannensee, we entered a more open landscape, and got the first views back to the snow covered mountain peaks around Wetterhorn.
We continued on the trail down in direction Engstlensee. The views on this part of the trail, both in direction Jochpass and Wetterhorn, were stunning. I love autumn, and it was a perfect day with that special crisp feeling in the air.
We reached Engstlensee and decided to have a snack break before continuing. There wasn’t a lot of people on the trail, so it was generally a really nice quiet and calm atmosphere during the whole duration of the hike.
After Engstlensee, we started the ascent up to Jochpass. From here, the path changed from gravel road into a more regular hiking path, but it was still easy. As we made our way up to Jochpass, we had amazing views back down to Engstelnsee and Melchsee-Frutt. I find it really nice when you can see the trail you have hiked winding its way across the landscape.
As we made it over Jochpass and continued down on the other side in direction Trübsee, we got the first glimpses of the Titlis glacier. The views were great with the white against the autumn colors and the blue sky.
The trail down to Trübsee was steep at some places, but only for a shorter time and nowhere problematic. It was great hiking down and constantly have a different views to the glacier, and the marks it has left in the landscape.
Down at Trübsee, we had lunch and used quite some time enjoying the area and walking around the lake. After some time, we decided to start the journey back home and we went to the cable car taking us back down to Engelberg, from where we took the train back home to Zürich.
