Bad Ragaz - Taminaschlucht
I did this hike together with a friend on the 18th of May, 2024. While looking for something not too demanding or far away from Zürich, we came across the Taminaschlucht Rundweg on Switzerlandmobility, and it looked perfect, so we decided to go to Bad Ragaz.
Full route: Swisstopo
We started out in Bad Ragaz, which we reached with the train from Zürich. After walking out of Bad Ragaz, we entered the beginning of the gorge. This first part of the trail was a really nice following the river on a gently inclining gravel road.
The path is all the way into the Taminaschlucht on a wide gravel road, which takes you through forest and more sparsely vegetated parts. From Bad Ragaz, it is about an hour until you reach the Taminaschlucht, but we did many stops along the way, to enjoy the views above and around us.
At the entrance to the Taminaschlucht, there is a restaurant as well as a picknick area outside you can use, and we decided to have lunch before entering. Upon entering, you can spend as much time as you want, following the path in the gorge.
We walked the entire way to the end, and it is also possible to enter a trail, running into the mountian to the source of the thermal water they use in the spa in Bad Ragaz. There are info boards along the way, and we both really enjoyed the visit.
You come out the same way you entered, and from here we continued on the hiking path. The path changes from gravel road to regular hiking path which takes you through the forest until you cross on the other side of the river and start the ascent up above the gorge. Once you are above the gorge, you have great views to the mountains surrounding the valley.
As we followed the trail and got closer to Bad Ragaz again, we got great views of the mountains bordering Lichtenstein. Up here, the hiking path turned into a gravel road and then normal road, as we started the descent into Bad Ragaz.
The path back down to Bad Ragaz takes you through forest and populated areas, before you reach the edge of Bad Ragaz. We followed the river in Bad Ragaz and from here, we could look back into the valley we had walked in.
Back at the train station in Bad Ragaz, we took the next train back home to Zürich.
