Brülisau – Saxer Lücke

Brülisau - Saxer Lücke

I hiked this trail with a friend on the 16th of September, 2024. I had once before been in the area, hiking up to Hoher Kasten. I really like Alpstein, and I had for some time been wanting to visit again, so we decided to do the hike below.

Full route: Swisstopo

We started the hike in Brülisau, which we reached with a bus from Weissbad. It was a cold but nice September morning as we started the hike. The night before, it had a bit surprisingly snowed in the area, but it made for some very nice scenery as we walked along the trail.

On our way towards Saxer Lücke, we had views to some of the many amazing rock structures that are in this area. The trail was a wide gravel road and quite easy on this part, although with steeper parts.

The longer we made our way into the valley, the more snow was covering the ground. The snow was still not on the trail, but we could see that the last part up to Saxer Lücke would be completely snow covered.

When we got closer to the trail leading up to Saxer Lücke, we could see that other people had walked in the snow, so we decided to give it a try, and see how far we could get. The trail here turns into a more narrow hiking trail that winds it way up to Saxer Lücke.

The trail was slippery some places, but not problematic for us, so we decided to hike all the way up. At Saxer Lücke, the clouds were constantly rolling in, which made for some nice mystery views of the peaks.

We stayed for some time to enjoy the views, which were really spectacular. The other time I was here, it was summer and blue skies, so this was a nice and different experience. When we started to get cold, we decided to begin our way back down.

On our way down, we decided to make a detour to Fählensee, where we also had our lunch break. Here, it was also completely snow covered, but it again made for some very nice wintery views.

The weather cleared up again, and we stayed at the lake for some time, before we made our way back on the same trail we followed up.

Back in Brülisau, we took the bus back to Weissbad, from where we made our way back home to Zürich with the train.
