Bever – Preda

Bever - Preda

I have done this hike twice, once in September 2022 and once with a friend in June 2025, and I initially saw this hike on Switzerlandmobility as part of the Via Albula/Bernina. I have both times started the hike from Bever train station and hiked in direction Preda.

Full route: Swisstopo

You start the hike right from Bever train station. The hiking trail is for the first part into the valley on gravel road that takes you along the river and through forest. It is a really nice start to the hike, walking next to the river, and when I was here in summer, we also came across a snake on the trail.

Once you are almost through the forest, the trail turns off and you start the ascent up to Fuorcla Crap Alv. On the way up, you have really great views into the valley and back in direction Bever. It is nice to have been in this valley during two different seasons, and seen how different the landscape looks.

The trail up over the pass is in some parts rather steep, but not difficult and well worth the effort. Both times I did this hike, I had a lunch break on the top, to enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains and relax after the hike up.

There are a couple of lakes on the first part of the trail going down, which are well worth the small detour. Most of them are small, but still beautiful, and with great reflections of the surrounding mountains.

Walking down towards Preda, you have stunning views towards the Albulapass and the mountains rising on both sides. I would love to do more hiking in this area, as I really love the nature of the landscape. The hiking path down is also relatively easy, with some more narrow parts, but nowhere did I find it problematic.

When I went in summer, we made a stop by the largest lake, Lajets digl Crap Alv, where we took a longer break and my friend went for a swim. It was really nice and there were several people up here, enjoying the sun and the water of the lake.

Before you reach Preda, you walk along Lai da Palpuegna, which is a really beautiful lake and I can recommend spending some time here. From the lake, it is just a short walk down to Preda, from where you can catch the train or continue down in direction Bergün.
