Monstein - Sertig Dörfli
I did this hike on the 8th of August, 2026. It was the first of a two day hike in the area around Davos and I got inspiration for this hike from stage 13 of the Walserweg. As I wanted to hike a bit longer, I started out from Monstein train station and also included a couple of extra kilometers at the end. On day 2, I hiked from Sertig Dörfli to Davos.

I took the train from Zurich to Landquart where I changed to the train taking me to Davos Monstein and the start of the hike. After walking for a few minutes beside the road, the trail turned into the forest and I began the ascent. The trail was a mix between hiking path and gravel road, and although easy it was at times relatively steep.
After a couple of kilometers, I got the first views of Monstein village. It was really picturesque with the church above the wooden houses and morning sun hitting the area. The trail passes through the Monsten and after a short walk on the road, you turn off and continue up on a normal hiking path.
It was a really nice day with sun and a few clouds on the sky and I enjoyed the calm trail. On the way up, you pass through both open fields and parts with forest, and you constantly get better and better views looking back down in direction Monstein. After getting above the tree line, I could see several of the larger mountains close to Arosa around Parpaner Rothorn and Aroser Rothorn.
The last kilometers up to Fanezfurgga were relatively relaxing and really beautiful. Just before the last climb up to the pass, I decided to take my lunch break as I could feel I was running low on energy. I had not met other people on the trail so far, but while having my lunch, several people which were doing the hike in the opposite direction passed by me.
It was a short climb up to the pass and because the views were amazing, I decided to take another break up here. From the pass, I could see the Dukan glacier, named after the Dukan valley, which I would soon hike down through. There was a constant change of sunlight and shade on the landscape as the clouds moved over the sky, which looked amazing.
Continuing down through the Dukan valley was really beautiful. There were a lot of nice rock structures and the different colors of the sediment were really beautiful against the blue sky. The trail was relatively easy and it was nice to relax a bit after the longer ascent.
At the end of the valley, the trail followed the river for while before it turned off and continued into the forest. Walking here, I got the first glimpses out into the valley below and towards Sertig Dörfli where I would end the hike.
I had seen that there was a waterfall while looking at the maps, and I decided to include a visit. Already from a distance, it looked really impressive. There is a trail that you can follow to get up close to the waterfall, and as it was only early afternoon, I took a snack break by the waterfall before I continued.
I decided to walk a few extra kilometers on a trail above the valley floor, instead of following the direct road back to Sertig Dörfli. From this trail, there was really nice views back towards the mountains I had just walked next to and down to Sertig Dörfli. I had decided to stay over in Davos, so when I arrived at Sertig Dörfli, I took the bus back to Davos and my hotel for the night.
